GEORGE SANTOS FERREIRA

George Santos Ferreira passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Hospice of Savannah at the age of 78 years.
A native of Taunton, Massachusetts, George was born to Manuel and Leocardia Ferreira on November 30, 1930. George and his wife Marie have been residents of Rincon for the past five years and previously were residents of the Bacon Park area in Savannah for 25 years. Upon graduating from high school, Georgia joined the United States Navy where he met and married Marie Alexander of Savannah, Georgia. As a Senior Chief Petty Officer SCPO SW, George served in the Korea War and Vietnam War, sailed around the world twice and is a plank owner of the USS Page DEG5. Upon his Navel Retirement in 1968, George began a second career at Georgia Pacific designing, building and managing the county's first laminate panel line until is retirement in 1994. George dedicated himself to his family and will be remembered for his love of Braves and Red Sox Baseball, Georgia Southern football, and anything his grandchildren were playing. His values and wisdom have left a lasting impression on his family and all who know and love him. George, originally not from the south, always conducted himself as a southern gentlemen where he never met a person he didn't like and as his son once said, "I've never met anyone who didn't love Dad."
